Terms of Service
1. The app
moviemates.social lets you rate films, build watchlists, and share with friends. It’s provided free of charge, “as is”, with no warranties.
2. Your account
You must be 13 or older to use moviemates.social. You’re responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe. Don’t impersonate anyone else, and don’t create an account on behalf of someone without their consent.
3. Your content
You own everything you post (ratings, notes, photos, chat messages). By posting it you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display it within the app to the friends you’ve connected with. That’s the only thing we do with it.
You’re responsible for the content you upload. Don’t post anything illegal, infringing, harassing, or that isn’t yours to share.
4. Acceptable use
Don’t:
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or copy substantial parts of the app.
- Send spam, hateful content, or anything that violates someone else’s rights.
- Try to break the security of the app or other users’ accounts.
- Use the Letterboxd sync tool on accounts that aren’t yours.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules.
5. Third-party data
Film metadata comes from The Movie Database (TMDb). TMDb is its own service with its own terms — we don’t control its accuracy. Letterboxd is a separate service; we read public profiles via their RSS and HTML, never via private API access.
6. Availability
We try to keep the app online and working, but we don’t promise uptime. We may change features, add new ones, or retire old ones at any time. If we’re going to break something you rely on, we’ll try to give you notice.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Our total liability to you for any claim is capped at AUD $50.
8. Termination
You can delete your account at any time from the Account tab. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Disputes will be heard in the courts of New South Wales.
